The Malaysia Division Council remains the primary touch point for members with a key focus on member engagement and advocacy of our brand. The Council aims to further the interests of members of CPA Australia in the region, subject to the jurisdiction of the board, and the administrative control of the chief executive officer and his or the Board nominees and assigns.

Based in Kuala Lumpur with clients across Asia, Sharman has been with SCS Consulting as Malaysia’s Country Partner for the past 10 years. With more than 20 years of experience in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and consulting, Sharman enjoys creating and implementing complex trans-border corporate exercises. In line with that, he strives to share alternative views and innovative ideas with fellow members. 

Gark Chee jin

Gark Chee Jin FCPA (Aust.) – Deputy President

Managing Director, Cypress Semiconductor

Gark is Cypress Semiconductor Malaysia’s Managing Director and Director Controller for worldwide accounting and financial services. He has more than 23 years of experience in the industry and prior to joining Cypress Semiconductor, he had various exposures spanning from audit assurance to local PLC and MNC, and held a range of finance operation positions with Western Digital, Dell, Komag, Globetronics and KPMG. Gark received his bachelor’s degree in business (accounting and finance) from Deakin University, FCPA from CPA Australia, and CA from Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Jimmy Lai

Jimmy Lai FCPA (Aust.) – Deputy President

Partner, Deloitte Malaysia

Sector: Audit and financial advisory

Jimmy has more than 20 years of experience in the financial advisory and assurance services. He has been a Partner with Deloitte Malaysia for more than 10 years. He has been involved in the audits of local subsidiaries of large multinational corporations and public listed companies in various industries. His experience also includes leading assignments related to outsourced internal audits, initial public offerings, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, valuation and financial modelling.

Dato Mohammad Azlan Abdullah

Dato' Mohammad Azlan Abdullah FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Sector: Service and Construction

Dato’ Mohammad Azlan Abdullah has 27 years’ experience in corporate recovery, project and corporate finance, internal audit, business operations, sales and marketing, merger and acquisition and general management, of which he has spent 17 years in a senior management capacity in the media and highway concessionaire industry.

Bryan Chung

Bryan Chung FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Director of Investments, Mountain Partners Malaysia

Sector: Venture capital and fintech

Bryan is Director of Investments at Mountain Partners Malaysia, a subsidiary of Mountain Partners AG, a venture capital firm and venture builder in Switzerland. He was previously the COO of CrowdPlus.asia, one of the SC-licensed equity crowd funding platform operators in Malaysia. He was also a partner in a regional venture capital firm and a VP of a local corporate advisory firm, managing and executing transactions as well as investments and incubation in the ASEAN region. A graduate of Monash University, he's a Fellow at CIMA and part of the Digital Economy Task Force at MIA.

Koh Ree Nie

Koh Ree Nie CPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Audit Partner, KPMG Malaysia

Sector: Audit and Assurance

Ree Nie has more than 15 years of experience within KPMG. She has led many audit assignments in various industries and was also involved in various corporate exercises, which involved the review of profit and cash flow forecasts, accountants' report, initial public offerings and due diligence reviews.

Prof. Zuf

Professor Dr Zulkifflee Mohamed FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) Malaysia

Sector: Education

Prof. Dr. Zulkifflee Mohamed is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) for Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) Malaysia. Prof. Zulkifflee holds a Ph.D. in Management from Multimedia University (MMU) Malaysia and a Master of Accountancy from Mara University of Technology (UiTM) Malaysia. He was with PwC Malaysia as an external auditor before becoming an accounting and auditing lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), UiTM, MMU and UNIRAZAK.

Prof. Zulkifflee’s primary research areas of interest include corporate governance, auditing, financial accounting and reporting, corporate social responsibility, accounting information systems and accounting education. Prof. Zulkifflee is the author of several books including Internal Audit Practices in Malaysia and Cost Accounting for Services Industries.

Dato Feizal Mustapha

Dato’ Feizal Mustapha FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Executive Chairman, Widad Group Berhad

Sector: Investment

Feizal is based in Kuala Lumpur and undertakes advisory works on capital market transactions, focusing on initial public offerings, reverse take-overs and backdoor listings, acquisitions and divestments and capital structuring. Feizal brings with him a wealth of regulatory experience, having been with the Securities Commission Malaysia for 19 years until 2012, serving in various capacities and in various regulatory and developmental functions. He is currently a member of the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia.

Tan Lay Keng

Tan Lay Keng FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Partner, Ernst & Young Malaysia

Sector: Taxation

Lay Keng is a Partner and Practice Leader of EY’s People Advisory Services – Global Mobility practice in Malaysia. She is also the China Overseas Investment Network Leader for EY Malaysia. She has more than 30 years of professional experience in corporate and personal taxation. Her experience covers a wide range of industries including oil and gas, telecommunications, technology, professional services, financial services, manufacturing, trading, and real estate. Lay Keng is also a member of MIA and a fellow member of CTIM.

Beng Siew Toh

Toh Beng Siew FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Chief Financial Officer, IBM Malaysia

Sector: Shared services

Toh Beng Siew is the Chief Financial Officer of IBM Malaysia. Prior to this, she was the Head of IBM’s Regional Accounting Center in Kuala Lumpur covering the Asia Pacific region. Over the past 25 years, Beng Siew has held operational, financial and management accounting roles that provide support to various segments of the IBM business including consolidation, controls, revenue, cost, expense, balance sheet, tax and statutory reporting. She is a sought-after speaker at local and regional conferences where she speaks about the impact of technology on the accounting and finance profession. Beng Siew is currently leading the Global Business Services Task Force in CPA Australia and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. 

Surin Segar

Surin Segar FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Head, Group Tax & Performance Reporting, Maybank

Sector: Banking

Surin Segar, a graduate of RMIT University, Australia was appointed as the Head, Group Tax of Maybank on 1 July 2009. He assumed the role of Head Group Performance Reporting, Enterprise Investment Management & Tax on 1 October 2016. Prior to joining Maybank, Surin served Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd from 2001 to 2009 and his last position was Director. He was also at PwC Tax Services Sdn Bhd from 1996 to 2001.

During his tenure in the professional services industry, he was predominantly involved in the financial services sector. Surin is currently a board member of Maybank Shared Services Sdn Bhd, a MSC Malaysia company.

Jagdev Singh

Jagdev Singh FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Partner, PwC Malaysia

Sector: Taxation

Jagdev currently heads the Tax Practice of PwC Malaysia. He has more than 20 years’ experience in handling a vast variety of tax and transfer pricing consulting assignments, including two years on assignment in London. He specialises in assisting multinational companies and local conglomerates with corporate international tax planning, developing pricing policies and representation before the local tax authorities with respect to tax and transfer pricing audits and investigations, mutual agreement procedures and advance pricing arrangements. He also works closely with a range of Malaysian regulatory authorities to contribute towards the development of government policies and legislation.
