Council elections

The election of Councillors to Divisional and Branch Councils for the period 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020 has concluded. The election results were finalised on 20 October 2017. We thank those members who actively participated in the election process.

The following Malaysian candidates were elected as Councillors:

The Malaysia divisional council remains the primary touch point for members with a key focus on member engagement and advocacy of our brand. The council aims to further the interests of members of CPA Australia in the region, subject to the jurisdiction of the board, and the administrative control of the chief executive officer and his or the Board nominees and assigns.

Teresa Chong

Teresa Chong FCPA (Aust.) – President

Audit Partner, KPMG Malaysia

Sector: Audit and financial advisory

Teresa has been a partner with KPMG Malaysia since 2006, and brings over 25 years of experience in the audit profession to her role. Teresa has wealth of experience in auditing including public listed companies, financial accounting and corporate exercises for members.

Jimmy Lai Can Yiew

Jimmy Lai Can Yiew FCPA (Aust.) – Deputy President

Partner, Deloitte Malaysia

Sector: Audit and financial advisory

Jimmy has over 20 years of experience in the financial advisory and assurance services. He has been a Partner with Deloitte Malaysia for more than 10 years. He has been involved in the audits of local subsidiaries of large multinational corporations and public listed companies in various industries. His experience also includes leading assignments related to outsourced internal audits, initial public offerings, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, valuation and financial modelling.

Sharman Arumugam

Sharman Arumugam FCPA (Aust.) – Deputy President

Country Partner, SCS Consulting (M) Sdn. Bhd.

Sector: Corporate advisory

Based in Kuala Lumpur with clients across Asia, Sharman has been with SCS Consulting as Malaysia's Country Partner for the past six years. With over 20 years of experience in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and consulting, Sharman enjoys creating and implementing complex trans-border corporate exercises. In line with that, he strives to share alternative views and innovative ideas with fellow members. 

Feizal Mustapha

Dato’ Feizal Mustapha FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Chairman, BDO

Sector: Corporate advisory

Feizal is based in Kuala Lumpur and undertakes advisory works on capital market transactions, focusing on initial public offerings, reverse take-overs and backdoor listings, acquisitions and divestments and capital structurings.

Feizal brings with him a wealth of regulatory experience, having been with the Securities Commission Malaysia for 19 years until 2012, serving in various capacities and in various regulatory and developmental functions. He is currently a member of the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia.

Gabiel Teo Chun

Gabriel Teo Chun FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Partner, GTC Group

Sector: Public practice

Gabriel is the managing partner of GTC. He is also a member of CPA Australia’s Public Practice Advisory Committee and divisional council, member of Bar Council Disciplinary Committee and past treasurer in Squash Racquet Association of Malaysia. Gabriel brings close to 20 years of experience in fields of auditing, taxation, insolvency and investigative audit. He was involved in uncovering fraud at some of the Malaysian Listed Companies. Gabriel has been involved in advising on approaches for development of CPA’s Public Practice activities including talks on GST in Malaysia and initiating the inaugural Practice management seminar in Malaysia.

Gark Chee Jin

Gark Chee Jin FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Managing Director, Spansion

Sector: Shared services

Gark is Spansion Penang Managing Director and Director Controller for worldwide accounting and financial service. He has over 20 years of experience in the industry and prior to joining Spansion, he had various exposures spanning from audit assurance to local PLC and MNC and held a range of finance operation positions with Western Digital, Dell, Komag, Globetronics and KPMG.

Gark received his bachelor’s degree in business (accounting and finance) from Deakin University, FCPA from CPA Australia and CA from Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Jagdev Singh

Jagdev Singh FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Senior Executive Director, PwC Malaysia

Sector: Taxation

Jagdev has extensive experience in handling a vast variety of transfer pricing and corporate tax assignments including two years on assignment in London. He specialises in assisting multinational companies and local conglomerates with corporate international tax planning, transfer pricing, tax audits and investigations. Jagdev currently heads the Tax practice of PwC Malaysia.

Nadzirah abdul Rashid

Nadzirah Abdul Rashid FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Director, CIMB Investment Bank Berhad

Sector: Banking

Nadzirah is based in Kuala Lumpur and was previously the CFO of Bursa Malaysia Bhd. Currently she is a director of CIMB Investment Bank Bhd and also holds directorships in a few private companies. With over 25 years of professional experience in the banking and capital market industry, Nadzirah brings with her a wealth of experience in accounting, financial management, risk management and auditing. Nadzirah is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy from the University of South Australia.

Tan Lay Keng

Tan Lay Keng FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Partner, Ernst & Young Malaysia

Sector: Taxation

Lay Keng is a Partner and Practice Leader of EY’s Human Capital practice in Malaysia. She has over 25 years of professional experience in corporate and personal taxation. Her experience covers a wide range of industries including oil and gas, telecommunications, technology, professional services, financial services, manufacturing, trading and real estate. Lay Keng is also a member of MIA and fellow member of CTIM.

Toh Beng Siew

Toh Beng Siew FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Chief Financial Officer, IBM Malaysia

Sector: Shared services

Ms Toh Beng Siew is the Chief Financial Officer of IBM Malaysia. Over the past 23 years, Toh Beng Siew has held operations, financial and management accounting roles that provide support to various segments of the IBM business including consolidation, controls, revenue, cost, expense, balance sheet, tax and statutory reporting.
