CHOOSE SUBJECTS

You can complete the CPA Program subjects in any order of your choosing. We recommend commencing the Program with a subject that best aligns with your strengths and existing knowledge base.

Learn the application of ethical principles, together with a strong knowledge of key corporate governance principles and mechanisms.

Apply accounting standards, interpret financial reports, and understand the business impacts of financial reports.

Learn how management accounting provides the information critical to the business decision making process. This subject then takes it all one step further and introduces the role of the management accountant in business strategy.

In the capstone subject, you will use strategic analysis to address complex business issues in a competitive and uncertain business environment.

If you have completed recognised studies in taxation and auditing, you can choose any two electives. If you have not completed recognised studies in taxation, you must select Australia Taxation or your local tax variant where available. If you have not completed recognised studies in audit, you must select Advanced Audit and Assurance.

AUSTRALIA TAXATION

Understand and apply fundamental principles of Australian taxation law affecting individuals and business and investment entities. Local taxation units are available for Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand.

AUSTRALIA TAXATION – ADVANCED

Build on fundamental principles of Australian tax law to determine the tax implications of complex business and investment arrangements. Explore specialist taxation topics, including tax theory and tax policy, the taxation of financial arrangements, tax consolidations and international transactions and cross-border tax issues.

ADVANCED AUDIT AND ASSURANCE

Focus on both external and internal audit procedures. This subject will ensure you understand the audit process and are able to apply international standards to complex audits.

FINANCIAL RISK MANAGEMENT

Recognise the financial risks faced by businesses and understand the key mechanisms and frameworks used to address and manage risk.

CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS ISSUES

Analyse and evaluate the role of the CPA in contemporary business and how the accounting profession continues to evolve.

YOUR DEGREE

degree level qualification recognised by CPA Australia.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

36 months of relevant experience where you will gain skills in four skill areas:

  • Technical
  • Personal effectiveness
  • Business
  • Leadership

You can complete these before, concurrently, or after your CPA Program subjects.

SCHEDULE exams

Unlike university where your exam is on a set day, in the CPA Program you are required to schedule your own exam from a series of available dates and times. You can check the exam date range for the coming semester in important dates. The availability of exams will vary by location.

We recommend you schedule your exam as soon as exam scheduling opens.

Scheduling your exam is simple. Sign into My CPA Program and follow these steps:

1

Select Schedule and manage your exams and you’ll be directed to the secure website of our exam partner, PearsonVUE.

2

Select an exam format – we recommend you select computer-based as most of our exams are delivered this way. If you choose paper-based and you do not see an available exam, you will need to go back a step and select computer-based.

3

Select an exam centre and click Next to choose from available dates and times.

4

You can then Add another exam if you’re enrolled in multiple subjects.
If you’ve finished, then Proceed to check out.

5

Confirm your details and you’ll receive an email from PearsonVUE with all the details.

It's time to study

Once you’ve enrolled and secured your exam – now it’s time to start your study.

As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail. We recommend you prepare for your semester of study by developing a solid plan. Join one of our upcoming events to hear our advice on how to develop a plan that sets you up for success.

CHANGE ENROLMENT

You can self-serve most changes to your enrolment via My CPA Program. You can defer your enrolment to the next semester, cancel your enrolment altogether, or change into a new subject. Closing dates and fees may apply.

 1. Log into My CPA Program
 2. Select CPA Program
 3. Click on Manage and select either defer or cancel from the drop-down menu.

If you select defer, you’ll be shown the terms and conditions and, upon proceeding, you’ll be transferred to the checkout to pay the appropriate deferral fee

If you choose to cancel, your enrolment will be cancelled immediately, any applicable refund* will be applied (conditions apply) and any exam appointment you’ve made will also be cancelled.

If I’m already enrolled, can I change to a different subject?

Yes, you can. You can do this yourself via My CPA Program. You first need to cancel your current enrolment, and then start a new enrolment into the new subject. Deadlines apply.

What if I enrol, but as the semester progresses, I don’t think I can sit my exam?

If you don’t wish to proceed with your exam, you have two options:

1. You can defer your subject to the following semester - this means that your exam is cancelled, and your academic transcript will show ‘deferred’. We will automatically re-enrol you into the next semester, and you’ll be prompted to schedule a new exam when the time comes. Remember that deadlines and fees apply
2. If you choose to go ahead with your exam, there are circumstances where you may be eligible to apply for special consideration

If you simply do not turn up to your exam, your academic transcript will show a ‘did not sit’ result.

I’ve never sat a computer-based exam before. How can I prepare for one?

There is a video available that will prepare you for what to expect on the day of your exam. You’ll also find a tutorial on our website so you can practice using the exam functionality.

*Refunds are only applicable if you cancel prior to the first cancellation date in the same semester as the original enrolment. Cancellations made after the first cancellation date will not be refunded.
