Ways to complete CPD
Content Summary
To gain maximum value from your CPD activity, we recommended considering:
- What is the relevance of the activity to your current and/or future role?
- What are the intended learning outcomes?
- What benefits will be gained for you, your employer, your staff or your client/s?
- Are there long-term benefits to undertaking the activity?
Any activity that increases your knowledge, skills and ability to do your job can be included as CPD. This ensures CPD is relevant to your field of work and career plan.
Here are some examples of the types of CPD activities that you can record as CPD:
- conventions and conferences
- webinars, seminars and workshops
- discussion group meetings
- in-house learning
- tertiary and professional body courses
- researched/technical publications
- online learning
- reading, listening or watching media (maximum 10 hours each year)
- mentoring (maximum 10 hours each year)
Recognised Employer Partners
Employment at a Recognised Employer Partner will automatically meet the learning requirements for CPD. You can recognise 40 hours for each year of employment. This can be pro-rated for partially completed years of employment.
Use Code L in the CPD Diary.
Professional Level Segments
Completing a Professional Level Segment at CPA Australia will automatically be recorded as 120 hours for the year if you pass it, and 20 hours if you fail or do not sit the segment.
Mentoring
Mentoring is a skill, like any other developed over time. There are obvious benefits for the mentee in receiving guidance, and also for the mentor to improve their skills in communication and leadership. You can record the hours as a CPD activity.
Use Code K in the CPD Diary.
