The following steps demonstrate the pathway for any member or student of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) to gain Associate membership of CPA Australia.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

If you are a member or student of ICAN, you may be eligible to apply for Associate membership of CPA Australia if you:

• are a member of good standing and not currently subject to any disciplinary sanctions or investigations and payment of fees
• did not gain entry to ICAN through another member pathway agreement (MPA) or any other mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with another professional body
• have successfully completed the ICAN CAP-II and/or ICAN CAP-III, and the ICAN practical experience requirement in case of CAP-III

and

• hold a degree recognised by CPA Australia s being at least equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level

or

• has at least five years’ senior work experience (current at the time of application) in professional accounting

Step 2: Complete Application

Complete the online application and submit with the required documentation, including your application and membership fee. Ensure you nominate the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) as the professional body with whom you hold membership.

Your application and information supplied will take approximately 10 to 15 working days to verify. Upon completion, an email will be sent to you informing you of your assessment outcome.

Step 4: Advance to CPA status

Once you become an Associate member of CPA Australia via the MPA, you must undertake and successfully complete the following:

Applicants who have completed ICAN CAP-III and ICAN practical experience requirements

Four exam papers of the CPA Program only:

• Ethics and Governance
• Strategic Management Accounting
• Financial Reporting
• Global Strategy and Leadership


pathway 2

Applicants who have completed ICAN CAP-II only

Six exam papers of the CPA Program, plus your experience requirement:

• Ethics and Governance
• Strategic Management Accounting
• Financial Reporting
• Global Strategy and Leadership
• Two elective subjects in the CPA Program
• CPA Australia’s Your Experience requirement


Upon successful completion of either pathway , you will be advanced to CPA status. You will receive a CPA Australia certificate and will then be eligible to use the CPA designation.
