The following steps demonstrate the pathway for full members of The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland) to become Associate members of CPA Australia under the current mutual recognition agreement.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

You may be eligible to apply for CPA Australia membership if you:

• are a member of good standing with CPA Ireland and not under any investigation for professional conduct infringements

• did not gain entry to membership with CPA Ireland through another mutual recognition agreement

• have successfully completed:
- the CPA Ireland examinations
- the CPA Ireland supervised training program

and

• hold a university degree recognised by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training as being at least equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level

or

• have at least 10 years' work experience, at least five years of which has been at a senior level

Step 2: Complete Application

Complete the online application and submit with the required documentation, including your application and membership fee. Ensure you nominate the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA Ireland) as the professional body with whom you hold membership.

step 3: Verification of application

Your application and information supplied will take approximately 10 to 15 working days to verify. Upon completion, an email will be sent to you informing you of your assessment outcome.

Step 4: Advance to CPA status

Once you become an Associate member of CPA Australia, you are required to complete Ethics and Governance within two years of the date of your admission as an Associate member. Your enrolment and payment must be received no less than six months prior to your deadline for attaining the CPA designation.

Upon successful completion of this segment, you will automatically advance to CPA status. You will receive a CPA Australia certificate and you will then be able to use the CPA designation.
