Career advancement
Content Summary
Enhancing your competitiveness in the job market is crucial for career advancement. That’s why we’re dedicated to equipping you with the practical and recognised skills that will drive your career forward. We help all CPA Australia members to stay future-ready by providing high-quality professional development offerings, specialist content, and flexible new learning formats.
What’s been happening this year

New modularised micro-credentials
This new approach to micro-credentials allows you to select specific topics for immediate skill needs – like Storytelling and Presentation Skills in Finance – or pursue a full micro-credential – like Data and Digital. This change allows you to curate your own learning journey.

New contemporary courses
Our courses are updated regularly to reflect core skills – like ethics, Excel and taxation – including our Monthly Tax Update. We also cover emerging areas such as ESG, Power BI, and AI. New courses such as Using AI with Excel help members to stay up-to-date with developments within the profession.

New forums
Throughout 2025 we’ve held a variety of new forums that help finance professionals meet to discuss key industry trends. The Government Finance Business Partner Forum equipped public sector FBPs with critical skills. The landmark Tax Forum united tax professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore evolving policy. And the Future Focus Conference in Auckland provided innovative ideas and strategies.

Establishing a Public Practice
There are different pathways that CPAs and FCPAs can take to manage their own practice. We offer tailored tools for meeting professional and ethical obligations, and provide a pre-check service before you’re officially established, to help set you up for success.

International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)
As part of their work connecting members across the globe, IFAC publishes a range of tools and resources via their Knowledge Gateway. CPA Australia is a founding member of IFAC, and we also contribute content to their regularly updated resource portal where you can learn more about the latest trends emerging in accounting and finance.
What’s next

Career development skills
As part of our flexible micro-credential suites, we will continue to release content designed to drive your career forward, including Leadership and Team Management in Finance short courses. Each of our micro-credentialed courses are designed to refine the specific skills and capabilities that will help you advance in your career. Simply pick the topics you’d like to know more about, and then start learning at a pace that suits your other work and personal commitments.

2026 specialty conferences
In 2026, we’re adding to our conferences with the new CFO summit, bringing back the Not-For-Profit conference, and extending the Management Accounting forum. These events will provide you with industry-specific insights and networking opportunities for all career levels.

Sustainability in Action conference
Join us in November in Hobart, where we’ll empower attendees to challenge our thinking about sustainability beyond compliance, highlighting how it drives better business decisions, economic resilience, and integrated thinking.
