INDIA – CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) have today renewed their Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) at a virtual signing ceremony.
The MRA, first signed in 2009, is designed to allow CPA Australia and ICAI to collaborate in the interests of members and the accounting profession and to provide a mutual pathway to dual professional recognition.
Since its establishment, a total of 1325 members have joined CPA Australia via the MRA pathway. CPA Australia and ICAI have jointly organized more than 120 MRA information sessions for members.
CPA Australia President and Chairman Merran Kelsall FCPA said the renewal agreement was a great milestone in the relationship between the two bodies.
“Renewing this agreement enables our organisations to continue working together to provide the highest quality education programs and to build the technical capabilities of accounting, business and finance professionals.
“Our agreement is designed to enhance our cooperation, broaden the global vision of members and provide them with relevant learning and development content and resources.
“CPA Australia and ICAI have worked positively together now for many years and we remain united in our commitment to the advancement of the accounting profession. We aim to attract graduates of the highest calibre and to maintain and strengthen professional and educational standards,” Ms Kelsall said.
Speaking at the event, ICAI President CA. Nihar N Jambusaria said, “The renewal of our MRA strengthens the commitment shared by ICAI and CPA Australia to working towards greater benefits for accounting professionals in India and Australia.
“The agreement will enhance professional opportunities for our members and will bring our two countries closer. We look forward to working closely with CPA Australia in areas of mutual interest.”
The virtual signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Manpreet Vohra, India’s Honourable High Commissioner to Australia.
