Teresa ChongTeresa Chong takes pride in her demanding role as an Audit Partner at KPMG Malaysia. Rising up the ranks since joining the firm in 1989, Teresa describes her job as an exciting and ongoing learning experience.

“I enjoy what I do. It’s not your typical desk-bound job, as you’re expected to go out into the field and know your clients’ needs inside out. You have the opportunity to meet new people and travel a lot,” she says.

Her extensive portfolio includes public-listed companies and multinationals in food and beverage, hotel, manufacturing services, construction and property development, as well as trading sectors.

“We have many female employees in the company and it gives me such satisfaction to be a role model and to encourage them to work smarter to climb the corporate ladder,” she says, describing the positive impact she has on younger employees.

Teresa believes work-life balance is crucial in any field. “One of my greatest achievements has been balancing a very demanding career and raising a family. I have a very supportive and loving husband and two children to thank for that.”

Young at heart, Teresa says having fun with friends and “letting her hair down” helps her keep things in perspective.

When describing the impact of the CPA Australia designation on her career, she has this to say: “It helps to be affiliated with a globally recognised organisation. CPA Australia is a well-known and active participant in the academic, professional and government scene. Being a member of CPA Australia adds credit and recognition to your work, especially when you are meeting international clients.”
