A Partner of Ferrier Hodgson, Andrew Heng has more than 13 years of experience in corporate restructuring, transaction advisory and corporate recovery.

“I was thinking of sticking to law when I graduated, but after spending a year in a law firm, I realised that it wasn’t my cup of tea and decided to head into accounting,” he said. Andrew graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Law.

Andrew has handled various insolvency assignments, including liquidations, receiverships, special administration and advisory work for troubled companies. His exposure in the industry includes property development, construction, restoration of abandoned housing schemes, scrap metal recycling, hotels, underwater aquarium and aquatic businesses, mining, timber, plantations, retail and manufacturing.

A CPA Australia member since 1998, Andrew was also President of CPA Australia, Malaysia Division in 2010. “I have very fond memories of my tenure as Divisional President and also as a council member for three terms,” he said. “One of the interesting bits was travelling around Malaysia to meet members from different states. I remember an award presentation ceremony where two of my staff happened to be the recipients, and I had the rare opportunity to present the awards to them.”

When asked about his greatest achievement, Andrew said it would be the growth of the firm which started out with 200 staff and grew to more than 600. “We could not have done it without the collective efforts of everyone and I’m very proud of that.”

To unwind, Andrew says he’s “a fan of racing cars and would head to Sepang with my Renault Megane once in a while to take part in the few races they organise there. One of the races Andrew took part in was the Merdeka Millennium race, organised by the Sepang International Circuit to mark Malaysia’s Independence Day celebrations.

“When I’m not racing, I take my Harley Davidson for a ride with a group of close friends. We would head out to Genting Highlands for a meal or coffee and ride back to Kuala Lumpur,” he concluded. Genting Highlands is a high-altitude hill resort in Malaysia.
