MC1: Integrated financial statement modelling
Ever wanted to balance a balance sheet but been afraid to ask?  This half-day masterclass will reinforce the role of each of the three financial statements and how you can build forecasts for the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement.  Using the concept of control accounts combined with error checks in Excel, this course will show you how to make your models more consistent, robust, flexible and transparent (“CRaFT”) by presenting a recommended layout.  The course will further take a case study to develop summary accounts, demonstrate the four types of model input and show how to reconcile Direct and Indirect Cash Flow Statements.  Accounting knowledge useful; a laptop essential.

Key topics:
- The concept of best practice is dead: CRaFT Best Practice instead
- Contrasting content with purpose: reintroducing the three financial statements
- Why control accounts are a financial modeller’s best friend
- Three types of checks

Learning outcomes:
- Understand what can and cannot be included in a “Best Practice” model template
- Recognise the four types of modelling inputs
- Get your Balance Sheets to balance first time every time
- Reconcile direct cashflows and indirect cashflows.

MC6: Building a Business Case Financial Model [SESSION FULL]

Being able to accurately model and forecast is a critical skill for Management Accountants, especially when considering a new project. This masterclass explores the practical usage of Excel modelling techniques in a financial model. By creating your own user-friendly business case financial model, you will learn to translate commercial concepts such as pricing, costing and project evaluation into a structured format to assess the viability of a new product or venture.

During the masterclass, you will create your own financial model to take away and use for future reference. You will learn how to design and create a user-friendly model which can then be used by anyone with limited knowledge of Excel.

MC8: Dashboards 101 [SESSION FULL]

A picture is worth a thousand words? Maybe. But really, it can be worth much much more. A good dashboard can be a powerful communication tool portraying the health or otherwise of your business – so imagine what a great dashboard might achieve. Management, accountants and financial analysts alike spend so much time refining their reports and forecasts that they often build summaries – dashboards – as an afterthought, not realising the impact it might have on the key messages stakeholders need to know. This session seeks to rectify this.

Key topics:
This workshop will demonstrate how you can develop powerful, insightful and interactive dashboards in Excel.
It will consider:
*How to set up an Excel worksheet appropriately providing layout tips
*Show examples of good and bad charts
*Why the nature and position of chart data is important
*How to emphasise key points
*Why interactivity is so important and persuasive and how Slicers may help.

Learning objectives:
- Understand the key considerations involved in effective dashboard design
- Create well-designed, interactive dashboards using Excel’s built-in tools and features.

MC15: Budgeting and forecasting in uncertain times
Budgets are criticised by many but used by all. It remains a primary way for organisations to think about their financial futures, but not without some dissatisfaction! This largely stems from the difficulties inherent in financially forecasting a future, and getting staff to authentically buy into the budgeting process, especially when that future is uncertain. This Masterclass offers concrete tools and techniques for staff as well as managers to better budget for uncertainty, and navigate the human side of the budget process in a way that is ethical, but also beneficial to one's personal interest in the organisation.

MC16: How personal branding is a win-win for you and your organisation

A great deal of talk about the changing nature of the accounting & finance profession is so focused on how much of this change is inevitable, it can be very dis-empowering. But there is A LOT as individuals you and your employees can do to refine personal value and position people beyond just a job title. In today’s fast-moving economy, position is more important than ever before. Job titles are becoming increasingly immaterial with millions of people having the same title, skills and experience. That means, you and your employees have to stand out to be noticed.

The GIG economy is changing the playing field meaning that 40% of execs in Professional Services will become freelance or consultants by 2023. The question is - Are you equipped for this? Is your organisation?

Your organisation’s brand and your own individual brand are not exclusive to one another. Aligning these attributes helps elevate a mindset from employee to entrepreneur and helps turn expertise into a specialisation.

Join Mary Henderson, a recognised expert in the field of branding to discover how personal branding can not only give you the edge but bring value to your organisation.

MC19: Sparking creativity with the Lego© Serious Play© Method

The demand for creativity and empathy in business continues to rise. Creative problem solving and our ability to connect with our customers will separate us from our competition, ten fold. Cultivating a playful mindset is the missing puzzle piece to living a more connected, creative life.

As we continue to hear the staggering statistics of jobs being eliminated by the millions in the next 5-10 years, so-called "soft skills" like communication, collaboration and flexibility are now hard skills we must continuously develop in order to thrive.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is a facilitated creative thinking, communication and problem-solving technique. LSP deepens the reflection process and supports an effective dialogue among teams. It establishes a container by which all participant’s ideas are heard, accessing creative solutions and new ways of thinking.

By the end of this hands-on, minds-on workshop, participants will walk away with skills to:
- approach their work with increased confidence and insight
- leave their comfort zone
- reframe failure and fear
- communicate more effectively
- respond to the unexpected and unplanned
- overcome creative blockages
- engage their imaginations more readily.
