Family office is often at times known for its investment management function. While family office is itself a Western concept, with necessary adaptations, it may help preserve family harmony and unity, values deeply seated in the Chinese culture. This session will shed light on how Chinese families can structure and use family office as a “glue” to keep the family together across generations or after a liquidity event.

    Founder & Director, HKUST Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business & Entrepreneurship Studies

    An adjunct professor of finance at HKUST, Roger is founding director of the Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies. He leads a unique journey from an engineer of Bell Labs to a serial entrepreneur and a scholar. He drives various ventures, from the only builder of offshore oil rigs in Hong Kong to a leading computer distributor in Asia. His management tenure has been entwined with family businesses such as OOCL and Sa Sa.

  • Li Man On
    Associate Director, Hing Wai Investment Limited Mr Li is an investor focused on stable growth and diversification of his family office assets. His family’s core businesses in Hong Kong, which include the Bank of East Asia (HKSE: 23), has spanned six generations, and he has been a guest speaker at a number of family business-related forums.

    Mr Li led the re-development of a number of family-owned assets. He recently created a UK real estate investment fund, and is involved in its ongoing investment deployment.  Mr Li received an MBA from HKUST, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business from Pepperdine University.
  • Samantha Lee
    Founder, Lee Ho Ki CPA, and Director of Strategic Intelligence Office, EP Group Samantha is a professional business consultant with comprehensive strategic management, business re-engineering, due diligence and listing experience, combined with executive roles in finance and accounting operations management, and corporate governance. She has over 20 years of audit and senior managerial experience in the Big-4 accounting firms, world class listed companies, private equity investments and family office. Samantha has held executive roles at The Glorious Sun Holdings Limited, Li & Fung Holding Limited and Luen Thai Holding Limited.     Chief Executive Officer, Glory United Investment Limited Benny is responsible for managing the family office’s investments as well as finance, accounting, and treasury functions for the Hong Kong office. Glory United is an 18 karat gold jewelry distributor in Hong Kong and a subsidiary of an Indonesia gold jewelry manufacturer. Prior to joining Glory United in 2006, Benny was the CFO for Oracle China, managing China finance, accounting, and business practice operations. He has also worked at EY LLP in the United States, and EY Hong Kong.     Dr Lam holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa in Canada, and he is an Honorary Fellow of CPA Australia.

    Partner, FSO–China Cyber Security Leader, Ernst & Young (China) Advisory Limited Wilson is a Partner in EY's Financial Services Organisation. He has more than 20 years of professional services experience in accounting, information technology management, risk, and information security, and holds a Six-Sigma Black Belt certification.

    Wilson is a pioneer in financial artificial intelligence (AI) and possesses extensive experience in leading digital transformation for enterprises. Prior to joining EY, he introduced AI, especially machine learning and algorithms into financial operations with a gamer changing outcome.

    Wilson has previously served several large multinational corporations in Asia Pacific region, including GE and BT, as Director of Data Analysis and Consulting Director.
  • Gary Hua
    Deputy Secretary-General of the AIoT Strategic Committee, Xiaomi Inc Gary is the Deputy Secretary-General of the AIoT Strategic Committee in Xiaomi. He is involved in all the AIoT projects across the whole company and has a clear understanding of Xiaomi’s AIoT strategy. His research interests include smart home, IoT platform and 5G.

    Gary’s career started at Microsoft. He joined Xiaomi in 2011 and has more than 10 years of R&D experience in mobile device and IoT.
  • Michelle Li
    Head of Research, AMTD Group Michelle follows the FinTech industry closely and specialises in analysing the financial sector in China. She publishes on financial technology trend frequently covering topics such as online consumer lending, blockchain, WealthTech, InsurTech.   • Norman Tam
    General Manager of International Business Group, Tencent Norman has over 20 years of operation and management experience and is responsible for driving Tencent's overseas development in areas of entertainment, advertising and cloud computing. He is also the Head of Hong Kong and Taiwan Office of Tencent International Business Group.

    Prior to Tencent, he worked at Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse and cofounded two Internet start-ups on education and gaming. He graduated from University of Wisconsin - Madison with a Bachelor's degree in Information System and Computer Science.
