The election of Councillors to Divisional and Branch Councils for the period 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020 has concluded. The election results were finalised on 20 October 2017. We thank those members who actively participated in the election process.

The following candidates from New Zealand were elected as Councillors:

The council was established with the aim of supporting CPA Australia's Board of Directors in serving and representing member interests through enhancement of skills, qualifications and professionalism.

Andrew chairs the tax committee of the New Zealand branch of CPA Australia. He has gained bachelor degrees in law and commerce. In addition to being a CPA, Andrew is a qualified lawyer.

Working for KPMG for over 22 years, Stephen is now the national lead partner in charge of KPMG’s New Zealand forensic practice. He provides auditing, accounting, dispute resolution, expert testimony and financial advisory services to clients in a number of industries including financial services, information and high technology, consumer markets, industrial and energy companies, telecommunications and the quasi-governmental sector. He has led numerous investigations around financial reporting fraud, including three involving multi-national companies in the insurance sector.

Bomas Brandeis

Tomas is a well-travelled cluster finance director for Hilton Worldwide and one of the youngest across the enterprise. He has been with Hilton for the last 15 years and has worked and lived in eight different countries.

John Gill

John is the former CFO of Datacom New Zealand, and former CEO of Datacom Employer Services. Prior to that John worked in the New Zealand public sector for 30 years, including senior roles in the Ministry of Education, Department of Maori Affairs, Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Transport. John has significant experience in accounting for schools, and in management accounting and in the management of payroll, business process outsourcing and IT. John’s interests are in encouraging and mentoring accounting students into CPA membership and Maori education. John is a Fellow of CPA Australia.

Brad Golchin

Brad has been at the forefront of the accounting industry in Auckland with his commitment to the introduction of technology to run his practices. With 15 years’ experience in accounting practice as Director of Wise Advice Ltd and more recently XO Accounting Pty Ltd, Brad also brings expertise as a facilitator of a wide range of industry seminars and workshops. He is committed to mentoring and development for small-to-medium-enterprise business owners.

Sharmaine Naidoo

Sharmaine has executive international finance, commercial, information systems and shared services experience, across both private & public sector, across a wide range industries- FMCG, manufacturing and wholesale distribution. Sharmaine’s interest are in mentoring young accountants to move/think in the business partnering and commercial space and change the perception of the finance professional from back office to value add.

Anil Narayan

Senior Lecturer in Accounting, AUT University

Sector: Education

Anil has experience as an accounting academic having taught financial and management accounting at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for the past 15 years. He has also provided tuition to students undertaking the professional accounting programs of NZICA, CIMA and CPA Australia.

Matthew Needham

Matthew Needham FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Chief Financial Officer, Department of Internal Affairs

Sector: Government

Matthew is the CFO at the Department of Internal Affairs. Prior to that he held a number of senior finance positions in the U.K. in organisations such as DHL, BT Openreach, Experian and Rolls-Royce. In addition he has also consulted to several British universities on improving value for money. Matthew is a keynote speaker, specialist in cost reduction and transforming the finance function.

Scott Soullar

Scott Scoullar FCPA (Aust.) – Councillor

Chief Financial Officer, Summerset Group Holdings Limited

Sector: Aged care

Scott is CFO for Summerset which is a NZX and ASX listed company with over $1 billion in assets, in the fastest growing industry in New Zealand. Scott has a mix of public and private sector experience and was CFO for Housing NZ which had over $16 billion in housing assets. He was also the CFO for Inland Revenue responsible for over $45 billion in annual crown revenue, and has 12 years' extensive banking industry experience. Scott holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration.
