Steve Wearn

Steve Wearn FCPA – President

Steve is the Managing Director at The Leadership and Management Team, a company that specialises in providing Executive Coaching and Mentoring to senior Public Servants. Steve is also currently Callida Consulting’s Leadership practice leader and Director of Defence Business. Previously, Steve has held a variety of Senior Executive level positions in the Australian Public Service up to Deputy Secretary level.

Steve was also the CFO of the Defence Materiel Organisation. His areas of expertise include financial management, change management, leadership development, management, strategic and corporate planning, business process improvement and service delivery.

Darren Schaeffer

Darren Schaeffer FCPA – Deputy President

Mr Schaeffer is an Executive Director and consultant at Curijo Pty Ltd, a professional services firm. Prior to this, Darren was Chief Financial Officer for two large Australian government departments and has held other senior roles in the Australian Public Service. Prior to working in the public sector, he held finance and accounting roles in private sector companies.

He has a Master of Business Administration (Public Sector), and has a strong interest in aligning workforce motivation and strategy for individuals, teams and organisations.

Jill Divorty

Jill Divorty is currently working with the Commonwealth Shared Services Centre, assisting with the onboarding of new customers. Prior to this, Jill spent 5 years heading up the ACT Government Shared Services Centre, which delivers a broad span of corporate services to all ACT Government agencies including Finance, HR, ICT, Procurement and Capital Works, Records, Mailroom and Publishing Services.

Jill’s experience in the APS spans more than 20 years and has included senior management and executive roles in finance, strategic planning, construction, portfolio investment management and large scale procurement, both at the National Blood Authority and Defence Housing Australia.

Hawari Bandri

Hawari Badri FCPA – Councillor and Past President

Hawari is a partner in Deloitte Canberra specialising in the field of forensics. Hawari helps clients solve complex issues relating to fraud, misuse of government programmes/systems and government funding. 

Prior to this Hawari has held senior positions in the Federal Government where she devised robust financial frameworks to oversee the Commonwealth’s finances, worked with law enforcement to disrupt organised crime syndicates and worked with the Nauruan Government in the creation of a framework for the protection of children on the island.

Hawari’s time in Government also saw her spend two years in Jakarta working with Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance to share her expertise about financial governance, budgeting and establishing accountable and transparent financial frameworks.

Emily Canning

Emily Canning FCPA – Councillor

After five years in private practice, Emily joined the Australian Public Service in 2001, with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service. Since this time, Emily has had the opportunity to work for the then Department of Family and Community Services, ComSuper, the then Department of Education, Employment, and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), and the Department of Human Services (DHS). Emily is currently the Chief Finance Officer for the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, joining the department in April 2015, with approximately 200 staff across Australia providing financial and business support services to the department.

Michael Jeremenko

Michael Jeremenko CPA – Councillor

Michael is a Director of Finance within Shared Services ACT Government. Michael delivers executive management reporting, data analytics and business modelling for Whole-of-Government corporate services in Information Communications Technology, Finance and Human Resources.

Michael has more than 20 years of experience, including at senior executive levels, in strategic financial and change management in private and public sectors. Michael has led major change initiatives in ACT and federal shared services.

Previously, Michael has held executive positions at the Department of Employment, Australian Border Force, Defence Housing Australia and ActewAGL.

In addition to being a Councillor, Michael is Chair of the Public Sector and Management Accountants Committee in CPA Australia – ACT.

Tony Marks

Tony Marks FCPA – Councillor and Past President

Tony Marks is the Executive Manager of Corporate & Member Services and Company Secretary for Animal Health Australia and its related companies. Tony delivers financial and human capital leadership, information technology and communication management and corporate support and compliance for AHA’s Board of Directors, its committees and Members.

Tony has extensive senior executive expertise in financial and general management, gained in federal and state government agencies, the not for profit sector and publicly listed companies in utilities, housing and construction, science, research and resource sectors. He has been responsible for major business transformation programs, including leading an organisation-wide cultural change program aimed at developing a more inclusive culture with a focus on gender equity, cultural background, and diversity of thought.

Tony prides himself on being an experienced people leader both in business, the community and his profession. Tony has held several positions as CFO, Head of Corporate and CEO and has served on School and research grants Boards. He is a past President of CPA’s ACT Divisional Council and continues as a Divisional and National Representative Councillor.

Rodney Miller

Rodney is a partner with the Assurance and Consulting Division of RSM, Canberra. Rodney provides both internal and external audit advice to clients from a wide range of industries in both the public and private sector.

Rodney has also worked with closely held businesses in providing general accounting and management consulting advice. Rodney also currently facilitates the CPA not for profit discussion group and has a strong interest in assisting not for profits work through the challenges facing the sector.

Monir Mir

Monir is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Canberra having previously worked at the University of Wollongong and at the University of New England. Monir completed his PhD in public sector accounting and is a current member of the Finance Committee of the University of Canberra.

He has been supporting CPA Australia as its Campus Liaison Person for the University of Canberra since 2004.


Kym Partington

Ms Partington started her professional career in the private accounting sector working in bankruptcies and liquidations.

Since joining the public sector, Ms Partington has worked at the Australian National Audit Office and held senior positions in the Australian Government departments of Finance and been the Chief Financial Officer at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport.

Ms Partington is currently the National Manager of financial accounting in the Department of Human Services.
