On 22 July 2026 the Disciplinary Tribunal found Mr Anthony Wright breached CPA Australia’s 11 May 2022 Constitution (the Constitution) Article 36(a), in that he had “committed, participated in or been involved with an Adverse Event” as defined in:
Complaint 1
“committed, participated in or been involved with an Adverse Event” as defined in Article 76(h) of the Constitution in that he “became the subject of a final Adverse Finding in relation to the Member’s conduct, competence or recognition by any Court, professional body, statutory or other regulatory authority in any jurisdiction” in respect of an Australian Securities and Investments Commission Banning Order for seven years dated 29 November 2024.
Background
On or about 8 August 2025, Mr Wright was appointed joint and several administrators, with Michael Billingsley, of the Warringah Bowling Club Limited (ACN000014219) (the Company).
On 9 December 2025, Judge Stewart of the Federal Court of Australia handed down his reasons for the decision on costs after ordering on 5 December 2025 that the administration of the Company immediately end. In his reasons, Stewart J stated, in relation to the administrators, that:
“… the only reason an application to Court was necessary was because of the Administrators’ unreasonable conduct …”.
Decision
Mr Wright attended the Disciplinary Tribunal hearing and denied the Complaint. The Disciplinary Tribunal considered the evidence before it and found the Complaint sustained.
Penalty and Conditions
The Disciplinary Tribunal acknowledged Mr Wright’s cooperation in the disciplinary process, his attendance at the hearing and his demonstration of remorse and insight into the matter. However, the Disciplinary Tribunal also noted that the Member failed to meet his professional obligations.
The Disciplinary Tribunal imposed the following penalty:
- A severe reprimand.
- Mr Wright must provide to the GMPC evidence of the successful completion of the following courses:
o Ethical Dilemmas in Accounting, A Practical Perspective, a CPA Australia on demand course;
o Essential Skills: Insolvency Dealing with Creditors’ Requests”, an ARITA on demand course (or their equivalents),
by 31 December 2026, or as otherwise allowed by the GMPC, failing which membership be forfeited.
Costs
The Member was ordered to pay CPA Australia’s costs of $16,684.40.
