What is the volunteer mentor database?
The volunteer mentor database is a database of CPAs and FCPAs who have volunteered their time and expertise, and are willing to mentor an Associate member through their time on the Mentor Program.
These CPAs and FCPAs have registered as volunteer mentors and their details are available on the volunteer mentor database.
Associate members who do not have access to a suitable mentor may choose to pay for access to the volunteer mentor database.
Access to the volunteer mentor database is only available to Associate members who have registered for the Mentor Program and have paid the fee of $330.00 (Australian based members) or $300.00 (overseas members).
How does the database work?
The database involves Associate members searching the database and contacting volunteer mentors via email. CPA Australia does not guarantee that a sucessful match will be made as the process is dependant on the availability of volunteer mentors and the mentee finding an appropriate match.
Associate members who are unable to find a suitable match before the cut-off date will be transferred to the following semester.
Tips for selecting an appropriate volunteer mentor:
- The 'Areas of interest' search criteria allows you to narrow your search for a mentor. Choose only one area of interest as this will broaden the search.
- You can select a volunteer mentor who is interstate or overseas, as long as they are willing to mentor you from a distance. This will involve communication via phone, fax and email. You will need to make the mentor aware of your location when you first contact them.
- Customise the email so that the volunteer mentor knows your background before they respond to you.
- If the mentor contacts you, repond as soon as possible as this will demonstrate your commitment to the process.
When can I access the volunteer mentor database?
The database is open at the beginning of each semester and will remain open until the semester cut-off date.
It is now closed for semester 2, 2008, and will reopen for semester 1, 2009 on Friday 19 December 2008.
