Drought
Several regional newspapers and radio stations cited results of CPA Australia's online poll of Australian members regarding the effects of drought on businesses. Results indicated that 80 per cent of respondents' or their clients' businesses had been affected negatively by drought. CPA Australia's drought information kit gained further coverage.
Reporting standards
A lead article by The Australian Financial Review (AFR), centring on the proposed introduction of IFRS for small and medium-sized entities, referred extensively to research commissioned by CPA Australia. According to results, the new reporting standards would be supported by the majority of CPA Australia members.
Borrowing
CPA research of preferred lenders and borrower knowledge attracted coverage in several regional and metropolitan newspapers. CPA Australia's financial planning policy adviser Kath Bowler relayed and elaborated on research findings such as young borrowers' preferences for non-traditional lenders, consumer tendencies to borrow more from brokers and borrower misconceptions about interest rates.

The Herald Sun published an article by CPA Australia's business policy adviser Gavan Ord that provided advice for small business owners in light of the Reserve Bank's interest rate rise. Ord featured prominently in a double-page spread in BRW, which highlighted franchisees vulnerability under current insolvency laws. He spoke of the need for and chances of governmental reform.
Tax reform
CPA Australia's director of policy and research Paul Drum was interviewed by The Age on the government and opposition's 'tit-for-tat' on tax reform. Drum commented on the scope for lower rates. The AFR also quoted Drum on tax changes announced by the minister for revenue and assistant treasurer Peter Dutton.

CPA Australia's support for Edith Cowan University's education program aimed at tackling the issue of succession planning in Western Australia obtained coverage in articles by The AFR and WA Business News.
