Q. How many membership levels are there in CPA Australia?
A. There are three levels of membership:

Members in Hong Kong must use the designation 'CPA (Aust.)' to differentiate themselves from the 'CPA' under the Professional accountants ordinance (PAO) in Hong Kong. Under section 42 of the PAO, any person who falsely claims to be qualified to practise as a Certified public accountant (CPA) or public accountant shall be liable on conviction to a fine and imprisonment. Q. How do I become a member of CPA Australia?
A. You can apply for Associate membership if you hold a degree that is assessed as comparable to an Australian bachelor degree and have also satisfied the minimum core knowledge requirements in your degree. 

Our core knowledge areas are: accounting systems and processes, financial accounting, management accounting, accounting theory, finance, auditing, commercial and corporations law, taxation, information systems design and development, economics, and quantitative methods.

The simplest path to membership is to complete a degree that has been accredited by CPA Australia.

Q. Can I become a member of CPA Australia if I graduated from local / non-Australian universities?
A. Yes, you can. If you have completed a non-accredited degree you will need to get a qualifications assessment. 

Depending on your assessment result, you may need to complete additional studies to meet our core knowledge requirements. This can be done by completing undergraduate or postgraduate studies that have been accredited by CPA Australia.

Q. How do I apply for a qualification assessment?
A. CPA Australia's qualifications assessment unit assesses qualifications on a fee-for-service basis for overseas-qualified accountants seeking membership of CPA Australia. 

We aim to complete your assessment within six to eight weeks. You will be advised of your individual admission requirement in the assessment letter which will be sent directly to you from the qualifications assessment unit.

Q. Are there any accredited programs offered in Hong Kong?
A. Yes. Please visit CPA Careers website to search for accredited programs.
Q. Can I join CPA Australia while I am completing my accredited studies?
A. No, you cannot enrol in the CPA Program but as a student enrolled in a recognised Australian degree program, you are eligible to join our Passport scheme. CPA Passport is designed to give you support with your study and career planning. It offers you a diverse range of membership benefits to assist you with your studies and keep you up-to-date with happenings at CPA Australia.

Q. What documents are required if I apply for Associate membership?
A. Applicants are required to provide the following documents to the Hong Kong China division:

A completed admission application form obtainable by contacting the Hong Kong China division or by downloading an application form.
