The structure of the tax system is a major influence on business decisions and economic outcomes. The Taxation CoE ensures CPA Australia is a recognised, leading voice on taxation matters at both the national and state levels with the purpose of influencing tax policy, the law and tax administration.
The CoE's role is principally acting in an advisory capacity. However it also provides CPA member representatives for a wide range of consultative committees with government agencies. These include the ATO, Treasury as well as representation at government/parliamentary committees, for example the Senate Economics References Committee.
Objectives of the CoE
The CoE will assist CPA Australia to achieve its strategic objectives through:
- thought leadership
- advocacy and representation
- supporting key areas
- providing or identifying appropriate relationships.
Areas of interest
The focus of the Taxation CoE is in all aspects the taxation policy, the law and high level systemic issues in tax administration in the following areas:
- income tax
- CGT
- FBT
- GST state taxes and duties as resources permit
Background and experience
Members will be drawn from the following groups:
- senior tax managers of large corporations
- public sector representative with extensive tax expertise
- public practitioners
- consultants on tax policy and administration
- academics specialising in tax matters
Representation
In appointing members to represent the Centre of Excellence, we look for a cross-section of members from:
- small and medium sized enterprises
