The establishment of the public sector Centre of Excellence will facilitate CPA Australia in thought leadership via the identification and progression issues relevant to the membership.
This sector comprises the public sector (including Federal, State and Local Governments and government business enterprises) and the not-for-profit sector.
Areas of focus are broad ranging and will include issues which are current and topical such as sustainability, public private partnerships, risk management, accrual management and corporate governance but also emerging issues for the sector such as shared services.
Objectives of the CoE
The CoE will assist CPA Australia to achieve its strategic objectives through:
- thought leadership
- advocacy and representation
- supporting key areas
- providing or identifying appropriate relationships

- impact of government regulatory developments, accounting standards, auditing standards and GFS/GAAP
- corporate governance issues
- public private partnerships (PPPs)
- sustainability
- valuation and depreciation of infrastructure assets
- risk management
- balance sheet management
- accrual reporting for management decision making purposes
- performance measurement and reporting
- not-for-profits
- emerging issues for the public sector
Background and experience
Members will be drawn from the following groups:
- CFOs of government business enterprises
- senior management in Federal, State and Local Governments
- consultants to Federal and State Governments
