Japan-based members and their guests meet monthly to discuss relevant topics impacting their working life in Japan.
Meetings are usually held in Meguro from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
Attendees learn more about business, especially in Japan, and stay up-to-date with practical business tips and technical matters including legislation.
A guest speaker is invited to discuss a particular topic at most meetings. There is a formal presentation by the presenter but questions, discussions, and debate are encouraged amongst attendees throughout the meeting.
Some of the subjects and speakers during 2008 included:
'Airline variable seat pricing model and managing rising fuel costs': Yosu Uriguen, manager, commercial planning, Qantas Japan
'Valuation methodology for the mining industry and outlook on commodity prices': Peter Ness, Global Wealth Management
'Banking in Japan and factors impacting the banking industry': David Hackett, chief financial officer, Aozora Bank
Following the meeting, informal drinks or dinner are usually held at a nearby location.
There is no charge to attend meetings but attendees are encouraged to contribute to the discussion.
Jason Buckley CPA, chief financial officer, Beacon Communications, currently chairs the Japan charter. Mr Buckley has been in Japan since 2006 working in the advertising industry. He is also a member of the ACA.
