More people than ever want to become a CPA

Date issued: 10 October 2006

CPA Australia today announced that segment enrolment numbers in its 2006 CPA Program have broken all records, a fitting celebration of the 20th anniversary this year of the CPA Program.

With 39,232 segment enrolments this year, CPA Australia says this represents more than three per cent segment enrolment growth since the highest enrolments on record in 2003. This reflects the increased number of accounting graduates in 2004 and 2005 (11,000 and 11,700 respectively), who are now entering the CPA Program.

CPA Australia’s Director of Education, Ann Johns, said the growth in enrolment numbers is predominantly due to the increase of international graduates, as well as recognition of the international portability of the CPA Australia designation, and the flexibility of the wide range of segments on offer.

'Demand for CPAs continues at an all time high. There are now more CPAs than any other professional body advising in finance, accounting and business.'

Ms Johns said CPA Australia will continue to consult extensively with key stakeholders and update the program to keep ahead of market demands.

'CPA Program segments are updated every semester, with revisions made as a result of changes to legislation, accounting standards and industry developments,' Ms Johns said.
