New approach for new challenges

Accountants were urged to try creative approaches to current challenges at the second Kate Stanton Annual Research Lecture, hosted by CPA Australia Tasmania division, on 25 and 26 of August in Tasmania.

Highlighting the increasing need for accountants, guest speaker emeritus Professor Michael Gaffikin suggested the Tasmanian accountancy profession and business community think outside the square when combating current challenges including globalisation, ethics and resource shortages.

At the event Professor Gaffikin, from the University of Wollongong, presented the paper Professional issues in contemporary accounting to accounting, business and finance professionals.

The annual lecture is held in memory of Kate Stanton (also known as Tamayo) who died in tragic circumstances on 25 June 2006.

Ms Stanton was a Tasmanian divisional councillor and president, Board Public Sector Committee representative, chair of the Ethics and Corporate Governance Centre of Excellence, chair of the Audit and Risk Committee and the National Professional Standards.
