Community contribution and development was the focus of the official launch of the CPA Australia and Synateq Young Accountant of the Year Award in Tasmania hosted by Self Help Workplace (SHW), Launceston's largest employer of people with disabilities.
The launch highlighted the importance of young accountants voluntarily contributing to local communities through organisations, such as SHW, to assist in developing and encouraging business growth.
CPA Australia Tasmania divisional president, Paul Viney FCPA, said the criteria used to judge the Young Accountant of the Year Award has a strong focus on community contribution in the field of accounting and finance.
Judging panellists of the 2008 Young Accountant of the Year Award will assess candidates based on their academic achievements, entrepreneurial skills as well as how candidates interact with local communities.
Last year's awardee, Tasmania's Shaun Bleathman CPA, has a close association with SHW offering his accounting and business acumen to the organisation pro bono.
Nominations for the 2008 Young Accountant of the Year Award close on Friday 26 September, with the winner announced on Friday 31 October.
