J.D. Mair FCPA recently celebrated 70 years of membership with CPA Australia at the 50-, 60-, 70-year membership presentation held at the CPA Centre in Sydney.
Mr Mair's daughters, Gail, Wanda, Judy and Suanna, all travelled to Sydney to help celebrate the milestone. 'Family are important to me and it's great to have all my girls with me today to help celebrate,' Mr Mair said.
Although 91-year-old Mr Mair credits his long and active life to 'a scotch each night and porridge for breakfast', his daughters credit it to his all-round active lifestyle.
'He started snow skiing and water skiing at 50, and took up tennis at 60, and trail motorbike riding at 80. He stays very active both physically and mentally in order to keep up with his family particularly the 10 grandchildren,' said Gail, his eldest daughter.
Mr Mair still works, running his own practice, J. D. Mair & Co, which he established over 60 years ago. Based in Sydney's northern beaches, he has a client base of approximately 35 clients.
'After all these years, I still enjoy what I do and that's important. You must enjoy what you do,' he said.
Mr Mair retired 15 years ago, only to decide one week later it wasn't for him, at which point he took up his practice again working from home. 'It's important to do something mentally to keep on going and not give up,' Mr Mair said.
