Opportunities aplenty for Tasmania's top young accountant

Nominations are open until Friday 26 September for the 2008 CPA Australia Young Accountant of the Year Award, with nominees competing for $5000 cash, a laptop computer donated by Synateq and a customised HR package delivered by Searson Buck to the value of $1500 for the winner's employer.

Tasmania's top young accountant in 2007, Launceston-based Shaun Bleathman CPA, has enjoyed a wave of success — including an increase in business — since winning the inaugural CPA Australia Young Accountant of the Year Award.

'We have gained new business and have had a lot of positive feedback from existing clients, which is very pleasing,' said the 30-year-old partner and director of Newman and Associates Pty Ltd.

'The award is fantastic recognition, not only for the individual, but also for the firm and it has created genuine excitement for staff and clients. It has opened the door for a number of different networking and learning opportunities, and more importantly it has also provided a point of differentiation for the firm in the market place.'

Having experienced a number of positive opportunities since his win, Mr Bleathman is now keen to encourage Tasmanian employers and individuals to nominate a young accountant who has excelled in their profession and made a positive contribution to their organisation and the community.

'It is important we continue to recognised excellence in those Tasmanians, under 35, who work in the accounting and finance professions,' Mr Bleathman said.

'It has been a privilege and an honour to have won this award after many years of hard work and dedication. I strongly encourage young accountants to be part of the success I have experienced.'

CPA Australia established the Young Accountant of the Year Awards last year, for the first time, to foster recognition and showcase the contributions and achievements of young people within the accounting and finance professions.

Nominees will compete for a cash prize of $5000 and a laptop computer donated by Synateq. The winner's employer will receive a customised HR package delivered by Searson Buck to the value of $1500.

The winner will be announced at a luncheon presentation on Friday 31 October.
