Public practice pathways: tailored to your career

Members planning to offer public accounting services have a range of options available to them.

In Australia, multiple pathways are available depending on annual fees earned from the provision of public accounting services:

  • starting your own practice or taking up a partnership
  • operating a part-time business or working from home
  • pro-bono work or minimal paid work*

Public practice study programs are tailored to these pathways. There is also a program specifically for members who live outside of Australia.

Program candidates have found the programs very valuable in helping them to make an informed decision about entering public practice and in understanding the role and responsibilities of a public practitioner.

Detailed information about the requirements to obtain a Public Practice Certificate, the components of each program, and other regulatory requirements which may apply to those wishing to operate in specialised fields can be found in the Guide to public practice pathways.

*A study program is not required for this pathway.

For further information download the Guide to public practice pathways.
