It's been another busy month for me as New South Wales president. I have had many great opportunities to meet with members from a wide range of industries and different parts of the globe.
One highlight was attending the NSW Public Practitioners Conference in the Hunter Valley, which gave me an excellent opportunity to talk with some of our members who run their own public practice businesses.
In that same week I also participated in the Joint Universities Committee meeting, which saw top accounting academics meet to discuss 'accounting education for tomorrow's global professional'. As someone who is closely associated with academia myself, I found the meeting particularly informative and enjoyed the opportunity to network with such a diverse group of academics, many of whom are struggling with the same issues such as the skills shortage.
You may already be aware that CPA Australia sponsors the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA), which recognise outstanding business communication. The ARA is a volunteer organisation, and an important enterprise for us to support. I enjoyed the annual dinner a few weeks ago, along with several other councillors and members.
CPA Australia continues to grow in reach and influence across the globe and it is exciting to hear the latest developments occurring with our friends from across the Pacific. In particular, the recent mutual recognition agreements signed with CGA-Canada and CMA Canada were discussed at the Canadian Australia Chamber of Commerce breakfast briefing, which I attended on behalf of members.
I was also present at a seminar entitled 'A passage to India' conducted by the AGSM where it was interesting to discover Australia's growing trade relations with India.
As part of our support for the president's charity, to raise awareness and support for research and support for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), staff and members had the opportunity earlier this month to purchase merchandise from the CPA Centre which raised both money and awareness for MND New South Wales. If you would like to find out more about this initiative I encourage you to visit CPA Australia president Alex Malley's blog.
I look forward to meeting some of you next month at the many networking events we have coming up.
