Financial reporting has changed radically over the past ten years.
CPA Australia is proud to have a number of our members selected as key speakers at WCOA to discuss and share their views across a range of important issues to the profession.
On day one, Christina Foo, director, CPA Australia Board of Directors, will chair a session on reporting with Professor Richard Petty, director, CPA Australia Board of Directors, participating as a panel speaker.
Ms Foo will steer the panel through a discussion on what information will be critical to users of financial reports in the coming decade, how financial reporting as we know is changing to recognize new technology and more sophisticated performance matrix and what effect will non-financial information have on the corporate reporting package.
Professor Petty is looking forward to discussing how financial reporting has changed radically over the past ten years and how new technology and more sophisticated performance metrics have increased the amount and quality of information generated by businesses.

On day three, CPA Australia’s CEO Alex Malley will take part in an interview session looking into the future to discuss accountants in the next decade. What will the accountanting profession be like in 2020? What will they be doing and what skills and competencies will they need most to be successful? Some believe the role of the accountants of the future will increasingly be to transform information into knowledge for organisational success. Mr Malley is keen to share his views on what he thinks the new opportunities for accountants in the next ten years and what is his vision on the accountants of the future.

Changes in the global economic environment have direct consequences for accountants.
CPA Australia CEO Alex Malley will be conducting an exclusive 'on-the-couch' style interview with internationally regarded leader in sustainability reporting, Professor Mervyn King, chairman, Global Reporting Initiative.
Professor King will share personal reflections on a life marked by business success, international dispute resolution, ideas for sustainability, humanitarian work and a passion for cricket.
Professor King will also be a panel member in the plenary session 3 which will tackle the topic of Accounting for sustainability: the connected reporting framework. This session will discuss how professional accountants can influence the way organizations integrate sustainability into their objectives, strategies, management, and definitions of success. Professional accountants play a significant role in challenging conventional assumptions of doing business, integrating sustainability, governance and strategy, encouraging and rewarding the right behaviours, ensuring that information flows to support decisions and to monitor and report performance that go beyond the traditional ways of thinking about economic success; enabling integrated and connected reporting and providing assurance services to enhance reporting credibility.
