AFAANZ 2011

Information for academics

The Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand Conference 2011, AFAANZ 2011, was held in Darwin, Australia, from Sunday 3 July until Tuesday 5 July. It brought together over 400 delegates from universities and higher education providers across Australia and New Zealand to discuss a range of industry 'hot topics'.

CPA Australia was once again proud to support the academic community as a gold sponsor of this annual event and, for the first time, the welcome reception.

Key discussion points at AFAANZ 2011 included:

  • the celebration of CPA Australia's 125th anniversary and our once-in-a-lifetime Neil Armstrong event
  • the CPA Big Break Project, with over $100,000 in cash and prizes to be won by students and universities
  • CPA Australia's 'uncapped' Global Research Perspectives Program
  • CPA Australia's involvement in, and communication of, the Accounting Threshold Learning Outcomes Project
  • Tyrone Carlin becoming the new editor of the Australian Accounting Review, a key CPA Australia publication and channel for academics to publish their research

CPA Australia staff from the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria were available to discuss issues, ideas and opportunities pertinent to the academic community.

Competition winners

CPA Australia ran a survey among delegates to gain feedback on the products and services we offer to the academic community. Congratulations to Professor Garry Carnegie, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Australia, on winning an all-expenses-paid trip to our 125th anniversary Neil Armstrong event.
