As world populations age, pressures are growing on publically funded pensions and there is greater focus individuals saving for their own retirement. Superannuation in Australia and pension systems around the world are key pillars in enabling individuals to save adequately for their own retirement.
CPA Australia is a recognised leading voice on superannuation and retirement savings issues. Our goal is to ensure the retirement savings system provides adequate retirement savings and is equitable, simple and sustainable.
Retirement savings Centre of Excellence (CoE) members will assist CPA Australia identify key issues facing the community, the profession and members. This is a key area in which CPA Australia is working to represent and provide thought leadership for our members.
Purpose of the CoE
- provide guidance on policy and issues relating to its topic area
- identify current and emerging issues relevant to the profession in a timely and effective way
- provide advice on relevant legislation requiring response / comment
- provide input and feedback on appropriate policy responses
- provide thought leadership
- address issues which impact across the profession, focussing on changes in the wider economic environment including globalisation and e-business
- be a strategic sounding board for management
- provide input on possible CPA Australia products and assist development of outputs

The focus of the retirement savings CoE is on all aspects of matters that are relevant in retirement savings including:
- superannuation
- self managed superannuation funds
- adequacy of retirement savings
- pensions and income streams
- financial planning

Examples of fields from which members may be drawn include:
- industry consultants
- senior management of large superannuation funds or administrators
- SMSF service providers and auditors
- public sector representative involved in superannuation
- financial planners specialising in superannuation
- academics specialising in retirement savings

In appointing members to represent the CoE we look for a cross-section of members from:
- corporate
- public sector
- public practice: small and micro
- business advisers and consultants
- academia
- not-for-profit organisations
