Cooper super system review

Review into the governance, efficiency, structure and operation of Australia’s superannuation system.

The final report of the super system report, chaired by Jeremy Cooper, was delivered to the Australian Government on 30 June 2010. The Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Superannuation and Financial Services, the Hon. Bill Shorten, released the government response to the super system report on 16 December 2010. The government is now consulting with industry on the implementation of the recommendations and draft legislation can be expected later in the year.

The review was established by the Australian Government in May 2009 to examine and analyse the governance, efficiency, structure and operation of Australia's superannuation system. The focus of the review was on achieving an outcome that is in the best interests of members and which maximises retirement incomes for Australians.

The review will have far reaching implications for the superannuation industry and superannuation fund members in the future.

As a leading advocate for superannuation reform on behalf of members, the profession and in the public interest for many years, CPA Australia has been an active participant in the review.

CPA Australia's focus will be centred on measures that ensures Australia retains a robust superannuation and retirement savings system that is adequate, simple and sustainable.
