Mr Davenport has been a member for over 30 years. When he became an FCPA in the early 1980s he was one of the youngest to ever achieve that status.
He is a third generation public accountant: his grandfather worked for the ATO and his father jointed the Federal Institute of Accountants in 1940.
While working in public accounting, Mr Davenport set up Davenport?s Business Fitness Centre, which closed in 1999.
He later set up a new business called Awesome Business Solutions. The business teaches other companies, including other accountancy practices, good governance, how to create staff and customer loyalty and how to increase profitability.
Mr Davenport also founded Accountability TAS, which specialises in auditing self-managed super funds.
According to Mr Davenport, 'From a public practitioner's point of view, being a CPA means you could lodge tax returns which will make up a large amount of your business.
'In the future, and it is already happening, the bread and butter of public accounting will remain, but accountants will also become business coaches and help their clients prosper. I hope the "think plus create" image is just the beginning.'
Mr Davenport holds many volunteer positions including:
- chairperson, Tasmanian Public Practice Committee
- member, Tasmanian SME Committee
- chairperson, Public Practice Discussion Group
- CPA book reviewer, Tasmanian Enterprise magazine
- CPA Australia secondary school business plan examiner
- past member, Tasmanian CPA Congress Committee and Public Practice Retreat Committee
- president, Tasmanian Business Enterprise Centre Inc
- vice-president, Bellerive Village Group Inc
'Being on committees makes you start a network of valuable resources. It also reminds you of the standards you must keep; standards that will make you stand out in the crowd. And its good for the soul to put back in,' Mr Davenport said.
