Fred Hodel FCPA

Fred Hodel FCPA has been a CPA Australia member for 60 years and is also a fellow of the Australian Institute of Bankers.

At the age of 17, he commenced work at the Townsville branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia (CBA). His accounting career was postponed in 1939 by World War II.

Mr Hodel spent six years in the Australian Imperial Forces Infantry in World War II as a sergeant and then as warrant officer. He was a prisoner of war for three-and-a-half years.

After the war he returned to CBA and remained with the bank for 43 years, working in a variety of roles across Australia.

On retiring from the CBA he continued to work as a finance consultant for large corporations and overseas borrowers for a further seven years.

In the mid 1980s, Mr Hodel moved to Brisbane to be near his children and grandchildren.

Over the years he has engaged in a variety of voluntary activities, including ten years' service as the Queensland and national president of the Ex-Prisoner of War Association.

Mr Hodel also continues to support and assist the RSL, Legacy, Scouts and many other charities.
