Pathway to CPA Australia membership for Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka members

CPA Australia has established some eligibility criteria for members of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) to become a member of CPA Australia.

Pathway to membership

The following steps demonstrate the pathway for ICASL qualified members to become a CPA Australia member.

Step 1: determine eligibility

The following eligibility criteria applies to ICASL members who:

  • hold a degree comparable to at least an Australian 3 year full time Bachelor degree
  • have passed the ICASL examinations
  • can demonstrate education on the topic of Accounting Theory (ICASL members who have completed the 2005 ICASL Syllabus cover this requirement)

If you are an ICASL member, you will be eligible to apply for CPA Australia membership if you:

  • hold a degree comparable to at least an Australian three-year full-time bachelor degree
  • have passed the 2005 ICASL examination syllabus

Each application is subject to a formal, individual assessment of qualifications.

Step 2: complete application

Complete the application form below and submit it with the following: 

  • certified true copies of your official degree award/s and transcripts
  • syllabus/course content of university degree (for those who completed the ICASL qualification prior to the introduction of the 2005 Syllabus)
  • letter of good standing from ICASL dated no older than one year prior to application, with the following information:
    • date joined ICASL
    • ICASL syllabus year
    • date advanced to current membership level
    • confirmation that you are not currently subject to any disciplinary sanctions or investigation and have not been subject to any disciplinary sanctions in the past five year

Step 3: submit application

Send your application to member advisory and information services at CPA Australia.

Step 4: processing of application

Your application will take approximately four weeks to process. If there are any queries about your application, a CPA Australia staff member will contact you via email.

If your application is successful, an e-mail will be sent to you informing you of your success. A welcome pack including a membership certificate will follow by mail.

If your application is unsuccessful, a letter will be sent to you outlining the reasons why. We will provide advice about how you can meet CPA Australia's membership requirements.

Step 5: advance to CPA status

Eligible ICASL members, will need to successfully complete the compulsory segments of the Professional Level of the CPA Program and, subject to satisfying the relevant mentored work experience requirement recognised by CPA Australia, will attain the CPA designation. The required compulsory segments are:

  • Ethics and Governance
  • Strategic Management Accounting
  • Financial Reporting and Disclosure
  • Global Strategy and Leadership (candidates must complete this segment last)

In the case of work experience, ICASL members can apply for an exemption from the practical experience requirements on the basis that the experience requirement to attain the CA designation in Sri Lanka. See the practical experience requirement pages for more detail.

Once you are a member of CPA Australia you must undertake CPA Australia's requirements in the following areas:

      • continuing professional development (CPD)
      • professional conduct
      • professional assurance
      • professional standards
