Australia has a minority government with Julia Gillard as the Prime Minister. The Australian Labor Party — which acted as the caretaker government during this time — have emerged as victors with both undecided Independent MPs choosing to side with them.
CPA Australia welcomes the certainty brought about by the end of the electoral stalemate but the real work starts now.
CPA Australia's CEO Alex Malley wrote to both major political parties seeking responses to election priorities and expectations of the next government across a range of issues of importance to our membership and the profession. In their responses, both political parties addressed the issues of governance and accountability in government, tax reform, infrastructure, education, business regulation, retirement savings, financial industry advisers and sustainable and climate change.
