Being a mentor can be a rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. It is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and experience, and develop your skills in communication, leadership and relationship management.
By mentoring others, we become aware of the limits of our own knowledge and are inspired to continue to improve ourselves. The opportunities are endless when you are willing to share your knowledge and life lessons with others. There can be great satisfaction in knowing that you are making a contribution to a stronger accounting profession by mentoring candidates in CPA Australia's CPA Program.
Through CPA Australia's practical experience requirement, the mentor guides an Associate member in workplace to develop on their skills; skills to make well-rounded, work-ready professional accountants. With your guidance you will be shaping our future business leaders.
Mentor Trevor Cook FCPA, director of business directions and analytics at Telstra, also found that the program has developed his career.
'Having a mentee has really taught me to be empathetic with the young accountants in terms of starting up their career and making sure that they get good advice early on in their career,' he said.
