Tasmania's deputy auditor-general Ric De Santi FCPA has been appointed Tasmanian president of CPA Australia, Australia’s largest professional accounting body.
The year-long appointment commenced on 1 January and will see Mr De Santi lead the membership across Tasmania.
Mr De Santi intends to represent the membership on matters of interest and concern to them, in particular the greenhouse gas reform agenda, the ongoing skills shortage in accounting and the global financial crisis.
'CPA Australia has more than 1000 members in Tasmania, and 122,000 members globally, with the majority living and working in Australia. I am delighted to take on the role of president and aim to make a significant contribution to the standing of members, and the accounting profession as a whole across Tasmania,' he said.
'CPA Australia is an influential membership organisation whose members are in demand across all sectors. Continuous engagement with employers, anticipating and responding to their needs, will be extremely important during the current economic uncertainty,' said Mr De Santi.
A registered company auditor, Mr De Santi is a member of the Australasian Council of Auditor-Generals Sub-committee of the Financial Reporting and Auditing Committee.
Being at the forefront of state accounting and finance issues, he is well placed to understand the challenges confronting Tasmanian members. His foresight and experience in a profession that has changed considerably over the past three decades will be beneficial in the exchange of knowledge among the membership.
Mr De Santi has a history of involvement with CPA Australia, becoming a member 30 years ago and joining divisional council in 2005.
Mr De Santi volunteers his time as secretary of the St Aloysius Catholic College Advisory Board and is a life member of the Launceston City Soccer Club.
